Arzana is situated in the heart of Ogliastra. The municipality covers a vast area, from the sea to the highest summits of the Gennargentu. From Punta La Marmora, the highest summit, your view stretches to all the island's coasts. In the valleys of the Flumendosa there are centuries-old forests such as Tedderieddu, and the leccio di Perreddu holmoaks. Artana means Cold mist or breeze, whose nuragic origins are confirmed by the existence in this area of various archaeological remains, of which the most important is the Ruinas complex.

Arzana is an mountain agricultural centre, and its woods are the home to mouflons, partridges, hares and rabbits. Noteworthy are also the stone monuments, including the Neolithic Domus de Janas of Perdixi and numerous remains of Unturgiadore, Sa'e Cartocce and Sa Tanca. The main handicraft is weaving; the local foods are pecorino cheeses, culurgionis and olive oil made in traditional presses.
