Ilbono is on a hill between the comunes of Lanusei and Tortoĺ, and is therefore a place many people pass through. Ilbono's countryside contains many places of interest for their countryside and archaeology, of which the most important is Sceŕ, where you can see the area's most important nuragic settlement from the second century BC. Other important archaeological sites are: Sartassu, Tedili, Pira Inseri and Elurci. There are currently 20 nuraghi in the area. Among the places to see wildlife, there's Taŕ, which is easy to get to and from which you get nice views.

Ilbono has an interesting old town centre, around the very old Piazza di Funtana de Idda, where to this day all the streets converge, including some very narrow and cobbled streets, while others are wider, to allow ox-drawn carts to pass. Among the important town festivals don't miss the festa della Madonna delle Grazie, during which the wooden statue of the Virgin from the sixteenth century AD is paraded through the streets of the town on an ox-drawn cart, followed by the town's young people dressed in traditional costume. The country churches of San Cristoforo, San Pietro and San Rocco bear witness to the past devoutness of the peasant community. Ilbono is famous for its handicrafts, for the embroidery and lace woven with su vrevolitè, an old-fashioned Sard instrument. Among the gastronomic specialities we find amaretti biscuits and olive oil from local presses.
