Loceri is on the Ogliastra hills at 200 m amsl, surrounded by lush olive groves and vineyards; it's 20 km from the Gennargentu and the Lago Flumendosa and 10 km from the sea. The area has many archaeological remains from various periods, among which you can visit the domus de janas of Sa Mardona, the nuraghi of Nuraxi and Cea and, at Cea, the tombe dei giganti. On the hill overlooking the town there is the Serra Uleri nuraghe, from which you have a great view of the valley. Typical country churches are the baroque San Bachisio, from the seventeenth century, near the football pitch, and the Sacro Cuore, on the road from Pelau to Lanusei going towards Taccu.

In ancient Etruria there was a people called the Luceri, famous at the time of the founding of Rome; it's easy, therefore, to understand Loceri's Etruscan origins. Before being destroyed, around 1316, the town belonged to the giudicato of Cagliari, then to the Spanish, to the Piemontesi and finally to Italy. The town's handicrafts included hand-woven lace and crochet and beautiful ceramics. The local gastronomy's typical disches include: culurgiones, coccoi de forru, cheeses, hams, amaretti, pardulas, gatṭ, paniscedda, mustacciolus, gueffusu, and good wines and olive oil.
