A welcoming small Ogliastra town, Lotzorai is 1000 metres from the sea, between two rivers (the Pramaera and the Girasole) which, together with the sea, create a pleasant breeze which helps cool you down during the summer holiday season. Lotzorai is at the centre of an immense amphitheatre formed by Monte Oro which overlooks it on the Baunei side and the far summits of the Gennargentu. The semicircle formed by the mountains protects the town from the worst of the winter weather and helps to make the climate like that of spring. When you arrive from Cagliari, entering the town you see on the left the Castello di Medusa, from which you have a great panorama towards the sea. The beaches, with their emerald green transparent water, are broad, with sand grains of different sizes in the different beaches.
There are less fish in the sea than in the past, but you can still fish for grouper, small tuna, saddle bream and sea bream. Inland, 4km from the town, you can visit interesting nuragic complexes with domus de janas and other nuragic remains. Su Padentino is 4km from the town on the road to Talana and is a thick wood with centuries-old trees: holm oaks, cork oaks and carob trees. There are places to light fires in safety and cook food, as well as stone tables and seats where you can sit and eat. The local cuisine includes a typical dish of broad beans and bacon, as well as good red and white wines.
