Seui boasts a natural heritage, unique in Sardinia, with the 3000 hectare forest of Montarbu, as well as important archaeological sites, from the Nuragic age onwards. But it's the medieval old centre that's the true attraction in Seui, with the houses made of schist built along the windy narrow streets.
In Seui, our tour is based around the "Percorso Museale Monumentale Sehuiense", made up of the Liberty-style Palazzina Liberty, the Casa Farci, the Spanish prison from 1647, the Galleria Civica, the Casa Caredda Loy, and the Chiesa di San Giovanni and Santa Maria Maddalena.
During the tour you can visit the anthracite mining section of the museum, to relive the Seui miners' harsh living conditions, from the start of mining in the 1800's until the 1960's.
With the visit to the Spanish prison, you can see the dramatic conditions in which prisoners lived from 1647 right up until 1975. Continuing our visit, beyond the writer and politician Farci's original documents, you will come into contact with the culture and history of Seui's people, rediscovering old arts and crafts.
Seui can also be reached with the Trenino Verde. Starting from the station of Arbatax at sea level, the Trenino Verde's route crosses the comunes of Girasole, Villagrande, Elini, Arzana, Ilbono and Lanusei; you see appear majestically the Gennargentu, Sardinia's highest mountain chain, with its peaks reflected in the lago Flumendosa. The countryside is a roller coaster of thrills: Perda Liana, a limestone "tacco", sticks up all by itself, then you go into the areas belonging to the comunes of Gairo, Ussassai, Ulassai and Seui, when the landscape changes once again, with many-shaped rocks.
