Hiking in Jerzu
Jerzu, one of Ogliastra's old towns, is at 500 m amsl, surrounded by imposing limestone plateaus, and the tacchi of Porcu 'e Ludu and Troiscu. The mountain setting, with the steep clean-cut cliffs, is ideal for climbing and walking in an unspoilt natural setting, with woods of holm oak, maple, mirto and broom.
There are many vineyards on the steep hills of the rio Pardu and the Pelau plain and that produce each year about 10.000 tonnes of grapes. The grapes are made into the famous Cannonau Rosso DOC in the Cantina Sociale, and Jerzu is famous for its wine.
